GOGLA advocates for fair, stable, and supportive markets for our members. Through policy dialogue, partnerships, and data-driven engagement, we’re ensuring your voice shapes the future of off-grid solar.

Let’s take a look at some highlights:

Kenya

  • GOGLA and KEREA continue to engage with the Central Bank of Kenya following the submission of a joint position paper on proposed credit provider regulations.
  • GOGLA’s involvement led to a significant increase in the off-grid solar connections target for the Kenya M300 compact, raising it from 11,000 to 2 million over the compact period.

Uganda

GOGLA and UECCC are collaborating on a paper to amplify the importance of SHS in electrification. The RBF under the World Bank’s Electricity Access Scale-up Project (EASP) has driven significant growth in the number of homes and businesses connected to off-grid solar in Uganda since December 2024.

Burundi

GOGLA is working with CLASP on the adoption of IEC Standards for off-grid solar. This work is scheduled to be completed in December 2025, and GOGLA will play a significant role in dissemination of the standards after adoption.

Malawi

  • GOGLA provided inputs that informed review of the 2018 National Energy Policy and development of the National PURE Roadmap.
  • GOGLA coordinated a meeting between the ASCENT Malawi PIU team and members of GOGLA’s Southern Africa Working Group on timelines and opportunities related to the launch of first RBF window scheduled for October 2025.

Mozambique

GOGLA will support FUNAE and AMER on two components of the new ENABEL funded e-waste project: a solar e-waste diagnostic study and development of a digital operating manual for private sector actors. The project kicked off in the first week of October 2025. Meanwhile GOGLA had encouraging conversation with credible partners to support the other project component i.e. Development of the National E-Waste Management Plan.

Zambia

  • GOGLA is working with CLASP and the Government of Zambia to solicit technical assistance under COMESA’s Regional Infrastructure Financing Facility (RIFF) to support enforcement of compulsory quality assurance framework adopted a few weeks ago. COMESA has provided same support to the governments of Zimbabwe and Malawi.
  • GOGLA provided inputs to the E-Waste Regulations draft to ensure the OGS component is incorporated, drawing on best practices and lessons learned from the same initiatives in Kenya and Rwanda.

Nigeria

GOGLA held consultations with several DRE companies in Nigeria on their thoughts about the new DARES II Program to determine any concerns to be addressed.

Guinea

GOGLA held a productive conversation with top executives of the Ministry of Energy and the Rural Electrification Agency that provided clarity for off-grid solar companies to access fiscal incentives.

Senegal

GOGLA and ROGEAP hosted a stakeholder engagement event in Dakar, Senegal, focusing on unlocking funding opportunities and expanding energy access through inclusive innovation and scaling up PURE solutions. Another event is scheduled for Abuja, Nigeria, on February 12, 2026.
