GOGLA’s sales and impact data is the trusted barometer of the off-grid solar and energy-efficient appliances sector. It helps to measure the stand-alone off-grid solar industry’s contribution to energy access by the Sustainable Development Goal 7 custodians and feeds into key global research and reports.

2025 Key Market Trends

  • GOGLA affiliates sold more than 10 million solar energy kits in 2025, the highest annual total ever recorded. These sales figures reinforce the critical role of off-grid solar in delivering affordable energy access at scale.  Affiliates are now serving 148 million people worldwide.
  • Growth was strongest in East Africa and Nigeria, where subsidies and results-based financing programmes have helped accelerate market expansion and affordability. East Africa alone recorded more than 7.4 million sales, while West Africa grew by 26% year-on-year, primarily driven by Nigeria.
  • The strongest momentum came from PAYGo, reinforcing the role of off-grid solar as one of the most affordable and scalable ways to expand electricity access for underserved households and businesses. PAYGo sales increased by 48% in 2025.

The data also highlights growing pressure within the market
  • Much of the sector’s recent momentum is concentrated in subsidy-supported markets, raising questions about how to sustain growth when programmes end and how to foster energy access expansion across the wider market ecosystem.
  • There is evidence of market concentration within the industry wherein a small number of larger and growing companies are reaping most of the rewards, while many smaller off-grid companies are missing out on investment and market share.
