Productive use of renewable energy (PURE) appliances such as solar water pumps, cooling and agro-processing equipment can boost smallholder farmers’ productivity and improve their incomes. Yet, their uptake remains limited by challenges such as ensuring reliable demand for increased outputs. This gap is addressed in a new report by Hystra, supported by GOGLA, Acumen, BII, and SNV, and the IKEA Foundation, which explores different market linkage models used by PURE companies and recommendations to strengthen this business model.
