Step 1: Commit

Making a Commitment to the Consumer Protection Code signifies that the off-grid solar company strives to achieve the Consumer Protection Principles in its treatment of consumers. The Principles are the minimum standards of practice consumers should expect from the company.

All customer-facing companies are invited to make a Commitment to GOGLA’s Consumer Protection Code, regardless of business model, product type, size and maturity.

  • Before making a commitment to the Code, we strongly recommend an internal review of your company’s alignment with the spirit of the Principles.
  • Submit your signed Commitment to GOGLA using this form.
  • Share your Committment to Consumer Protection using our CP communication guidelines.

An entry point for Consumer Protection including 15 CP Indicators across 7 CP Principles applicable to smaller, early-stage companies to facilitate prioritization of good practices.

A comprehensive framework of 39 CP Indicators across 7 CP Principles applicable to medium and larger companies to address the full range of consumer risks.

Step 2: Measure

Measure your company’s performance in Consumer Protection using the tools and services of the Assessment Framework. Companies should undertake a self-assessment within three months of making a Commitment, and every 12 months thereafter. As a company grows and advances, a third-party assessment and/or Lean Data Consumer Protection Survey can strengthen the insights and improvements.

The Self-Assessment is the minimum requirement for companies who have made a Commitment to the CP Code.

The Self-Assessment Tool helps companies measure, monitor and report their performance against the 7 CP Principles.

A Third-Party Assessment undertaken by the accredited provider, MFR, gives companies and investors an independent, objective, and in-depth evaluation of a company’s performance against the CP Principles. Companies get support to build a prioritised, actionable improvement plan.

The Lean Data Consumer Protection Survey, by 60 Decibels, uses consumer experiences to provide insights across the CP Principles; identifying strengths and areas for improvement.Companies receive a ‘CP Score’ which allows them to compare performance against the sector benchmark.

Step 3: Improve

Using the results of a company assessment, identify the strengths and gaps in consumer protection practices and create an action plan for improvement.

Use the resources in GOGLA’s  Consumer Protection Toolbox to help improve and learn from sector-wide best practice.
